This downpipe, made by K&B Fabrication, the same maker as our A4 downpipes, is designed to improve on the flow and durability of the stock VW pipe on B4 and A3 chassis cars. Each pipe is made of mandrel bent stainless, higher grade than stock exhaust components. The pipe has the same wastegate and flange design as the stock pipe, and is 2" in diameter. Despite it's slightly smaller diameter, it flows significantly better than the stock pipe because of its cast bend coming out of the turbo, and a better flowing flex pipe. Dyno results on an A3 show about a 5% improvement in HP and torque with the pipe change alone. You will also see significantly less smoke with this downpipe. It has a 6" flex pipe, twice the length of stock on the B4, same length as stock on the A3.
The pictured pipe includes a catalytic converter, although catalytic converters are no longer available. The delivered pipe will be long enough to attach to the stock exhaust while eliminating the catalytic converter.
The customer is solely responsible for compliance with local emissions regulations regarding catalytic converters.
We currently are making the A3 pipe without the front mount bracket as customers were having difficulty fitting them with the bracket in place. If you want a bracket on your A3 pipe let us know and we'll make one with a bracket. The B4 stock pipe does not have a bracket.
The pipe does not include ports for the 5th injector or sensor on '96 B4s, but those can be added for $60. The pipe is plug-and-play, the only possible mod, which may vary by car, is to tie the shift cables out of the way of the longer flex pipe.
