EGR cooler failure typically results in coolant loss as coolant leaks through the EGR cooler and vaporizes in the hot EGR air flow. If your truck is losing coolant but does not have an obvious leak or indications of a faulty head gasket the EGR cooler may be your problem. Coolant loss only during high-load situations (such as towing) is also indicative of a failed EGR cooler.
