Factory fresh VNT-17 turbos from Garrett. These are the OEM turbo on the European 150hp 1.9L TDI equipped Volkswagens. The VNT-17 is an upgrade from the original VNT-15 turbo allowing you to run higher boost levels and, many believe, providing superior durability.

VNT-17 ALH Retrofit Information

The VNT-17 bolts directly up to the ALH and uses the same oil feed and return lines, but it requires either a VNT-17 adapter or a clip-connector pipe to connect the compressor with the stock ALH lower intercooler pipe.

1999.5 & Early 2000 owners: you will also need to purchase the later style pancake pipe in addition to the clip connector hose. You may also need a threaded union junction for the oil return line for the 99.5s as well.  1998-2001 owners will also need to purchase an updated style turbocharger bracket below.  Please contact us with questions.

This turbocharger includes our Turbocharger Installation Kit, including all gaskets, seals and copper nuts. There is no core charge.

Oil Feed Line Seals are not included with this turbocharger.  If you purchase a new oil feed line it comes with new seals.  If you are going to re-use your existing oil feed line you need to purchase the feed line seals seperately below.  We recommend replacing the oil feed line to limit the chances of leftover contamination or clogging damaging the new turbocharger.

About Garrett Garret, along with Borg Warner, are the OE manufacturer for factory VW turbochargers. Garrett turbos deliver significantly better whole-life value than lower-cost non-genuine alternatives when taking into account reliability, performance, fuel efficiency and longevity.

Garrett warranties its turbos for 12 months from date of purchase, regardless of mileage. Warranty claims are handled on a case-by-case basis, where Garrett determines the cause of failure and whether it's a manufacturing, installation, or operating defect.

To file a claim we need:

  • Your vehicle's VIN number
  • Date and mileage when the turbo was installed
  • Date and mileage when the turbo was removed

We forward this information to our Garrett distributor with the turbo. The distributor makes a preliminary inspection: if the cause of failure is obvious they will honor or deny the warranty claim. This usually takes about 5 days from the date they receive the turbo. If the cause of failure is not obvious to them they will forward the turbo to Garrett's R&D facility in Los Angeles for further inspection. That inspection and reporting on findings can take up to six weeks.

If the customer wants a turbo from IDParts to replace the turbo sent in for warranty inspection, s/he must purchase the turbo at our current price. If Garrett honors the warranty claim and agrees to replace the failed turbo, IDParts will refund the purchase price of the replacement turbo. The replacement turbo will not be refunded if the warranty claim is denied.

Frequently Asked Questions

We do not sell the turbocharger without the gaskets. Using old gaskets puts the turbocharger and your car at risk to leaks or contamination damage, so we do not recommend reusing your existing gaskets.
As this is a turbocharger upgrade the actuator must be calibrated for your car and your tune.
