Frequently Asked Questions

For ALH engines we recommend the Metalnerd version because it is possible (though hard) to replace the pulley with the alternator still in the car.

What our customers say...

Works EXACTLY as advertised. There was a little card in the package to remind you which way to turn what. Peek into the pulley to see which bit you need, and away you go! I was able to use this and change out my pulley with the generator still mounted in my 2006 VW New Beetle. My hint is to tap the bit into the shaft to fully seat the entire enterprise before you spin the pulley off. The pulley is on there good, so a little PB Blaster, and a fair amount of grunt are required. Once the pulley/hex body spins a couple of turns, it will back the bit out of the shaft. I was able to spin the pulley off by hand after that. Worth every penny!

This works great, and saves you from removing the alternator. If you're belt tensioner breaks...this will fix the alternator clutch, which is why it broke in the first place.

Worked for my 2000 Beetle. I was able to get the job done with the alternator still on the car.
