This is South Bend's Stage 2 Daily clutch kit for VWs. It replaces the OE dual mass flywheel with a 22 lb. single mass flywheel, or you can choose a 14 lb. South Bend flywheel at the same cost. This clutch has a heavy duty pressure plate that allows increased clamping with little or no increase in pedal pressure. The organic disc material has a high metal content that more than doubles the drag coefficient while maintaining stock feel and durability. This kit will withstand 330 ft/lbs of torque.

This kit will fully meet the needs of all but the most highly modified TDIs.

The kit includes pressure plate, clutch disc, throw-out bearing, bolts, and alignment tool. 22, 17 and 14 lb SBC flywheels are available as well as a less expensive non-SBC alternative.

The kit includes:

I purchased this clutch for my 2002 jetta TDI with ALH engine. The engine has had slight power ups added in the form of some .216 nozzles and a malone stage 1.5 tune. The orginal clutch was noticeably slipping after the nozzles were added, and that became even more pronounced after the tune was flashed. This kit claimed stock pedal feel and the ability to hold all but the most highly modified TDIs. The install was straight forward and did not present any challenges beyond any other front wheel drive clutch installation. The drive: The pedal feel of this clutch is lighter than stock. The engagement point is lower than the stock clutch. However, I do not want to attribute the engagement being different purely on the change of clutch style (smf vs dmf). The original clutch friction plate was worn nearly down to the rivets. People who drove my car said the clutch engaged high and felt worn-out. The new engagement point is not too low. It is nearly the same pedal travel as a bone stock mazda I own. In other words, it feels like a normal clutch engagement. I can hear this clutch at idle a little bit. The original DMF setup absorbed a lot of vibration. The springs in this SMF friction plate do a good job of absorbing engagement chatter, but its not as quiet as the DMF. The engagement and disengagement seem incredibly smooth. The slip is gone. After following the recommended break-in period I went for some full power runs and spirited driving. I could not make the clutch slip. I now have more than 10k miles on this clutch and it still feels very light under foot. So light that I somewhat wish I had gone with the endurance rather than the daily. I would recommend this clutch to anyone looking to get rid of slip due to power add-ons.

Purchased this kit for my B4V so it could handle DLC1019 nozzles and a tune. Had a few issues with the new clutch having a very low engagement point and having shift symptoms related to the clutch dragging or having a very slow disengagement. I contacted John at South Bend Clutch who recommended a few things which unfortunately were not a fix. So, I sent the clutch and PP back to South Bend for testing. They didn't find any major issues BUT John offered to build a new pressure plate that had a faster disengagement point and a higher pedal which actually suits my driving style better. He did this at no charge to me. I thought this is damn good Customer service for them to do this when they couldn't find anything wrong with the initial disc and PP. Got the clutch reinstalled and it is fanstastic! I don't have to push it to the floor and all my shifts are silky smooth! Thanks South Bend Clutch! The clutch is great and so is the service. Thanks to ID Parts for working which such great vendors. You're the best!

I installed the stage 2 daily driver clutch with the SBC 21lbs flywheel into my Jetta A3. The clutch pedal is very light, a true stock feel. The clutch engages right off the floor and it's buttery smooth. It holds the power of my 1019 nozzles and tune without an issue. It's not the cheapest option, but I'm extremely glad I went this route, it's the only proper option for these cars. I couldn't be happier!

Extraordinary clutch, it feels like a new car! Buttery smooth and feather light. I love the engagement point and the shifting ease. Can\'t wait to finish breaking it in so i can do what it can do! Super quiet too, the car just purrs now. I love driving again! Would highly recommend!!
