Set of custom made replacement metal swirl flap rods and new bushings for the intake manifolds on the 2007-2009 Sprinter Van with the 3.0L Mercedes V6 diesel engine. Also fits the 2007-2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD.

The swirl flaps are located inside the intake manifolds and are conencted to the swirl flap motor through a plastic linkage. When the flaps inside the intake manifold become clogged with soot from the EGR they can locked in place. This causes the linkage to jam. When the swirl flap motor tries to move the jammed linkage the rods break. This becomes more likely over time as heat cycles make the plastic rods brittle.
Fixing this used to require purchasing a whole new intake manifold that. Replacement manifolds are both expensive and use the same plastic rod assembly that is prone to breaking. However, these custom manufactured replacment rods and bushing repair kit allows you to clean and rebuild your existing manifold with much stronger components.

What you'll need...
To replace the rods, you'll need to remove the turbocharger so that you can access the swirl rod linkage. Therefore, you'll need a full set of turbocharger gaskets, available as the Turbocharger Install Kit (OM642).
While you are there...
First, consider replacing the swirl flap motor since it needs to be removed anyway.
Also, with the intake manifolds removed it is a perfect time to replace the oil cooler seals. If you have not done this already, please know that this leaking oil cooler seals are a guaranteed problem this engine and it is better to take care of it now than waiting until it develops into a massive leak. Note that if you purchase the oil cooler seal kit you do not need to purchase the turbocharger install kit.
